Inspirational quotes to get your design juices flowing.

Did you miss me?

I know it has been a while since I last posted or really did much in the cyber world.  As always, my life is busy, which I like, and I’m working on figuring out what really matters and how to fit all that matters in to my life.

In the meantime, here is a great quote I came across

Be daring, be different, be impractical, be anything that will assert integrity of purpose and imaginative vision against the play-it-safers, the creatures of the commonplace, the slaves of the ordinary.

– Cecil Beaton

First – I have to catch up a bit on the Home Cure 20/20. Last Friday was Day 5 of the Home Cure and the assignment was to “Buy or Replenish One Eco Cleaner“. I have to admit that I have not been the most eco-friendly person when it comes to cleaning. I will definitely be trying out this eco-friendly all-purpose cleaner.

Yesterday, was Day 6 and it was a familiar topic – Clean One Room. As I mentioned in my earlier post, I find it very therapeutic to clean at the start of the week. It makes me feel as though I have a clean slate to approach the week – literally and figuratively.

And now for topic 2 of today’s post. I think that the adjusting and go-go-go of my life is catching up to me. I am completely exhausted today! My bestest says that it is because of low-pressure, so maybe its not me. Either way – I’m sooo tired. My apologies for the relatively short post today, but now you know why. Here is a great inspirational quote:

If one advances confidently in the direction of one’s dreams, and endeavors to live the life which one has imagined, one will meet with a success unexpected in common hours.”

-Henry David Thoreau

I bought these adorable and affordable shoes this weekend. Along with great quotes, great shoes and great always make me smile.

As I’ve mentioned before, I am going through quite a transition in my life. Between my career changes and deciding where to go with my decorating passion I have certainly worked hard to stay positive.

I saw this quote yesterday and thought it was perfect for what is going on in my life right now.

A diamond is a piece of coal that stuck to the job.

Best Home Cure Yet!

I’m so very excited to hear that Apartment Therapy will be starting its next Home Cure this coming Monday, October 18th. Better yet is their new approach.

In only 20 minutes a day for 20 days we’re all going to make our homes beautiful, organized and healthy.

So perfect! I certainly plan to follow along. I hope to share my experiences with you all and also hear about your experiences along the way.

What a great way to head into the weekend.  Also, here’s a great quote for you to consider

Contemplation often makes life miserable. We should act more, think less, and stop watching ourselves live.

– Chamfort

Happy Friday! Have a wonderful weekend.

While I had prepared myself for the transition of job culture from my last job to this new one, or so I thought, it has been a surprisingly frazzling first two weeks. My schedule is all thrown off, I don’t have much work to do, I’m still getting used to wearing “grown-up clothes” ….. the list goes on.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m still extremely excited for what the future may hold, and grateful for all that I have, but I’m drained. Hence, the short post today. I promise I will be much more on the ball next week.

I came across this quote the other day. I think it will help me to justify my current mental state and the physical state of my closet.

One person’s mess is merely another person’s filing system.

– Margo Kaurman

I have been struggling, since Friday, with the management of my apartment building. While I was enjoying my week off last week, I also began to have some upper respiratory issues. I eventually figured out that I only had problems when the HVAC (air conditioning) unit was turned on. After mentioning my concerns about potential mold to management on Friday (9/17/2010) and being brushed-off, my boyfriend and I were able to open the unit partially to find this:

While I’m not a scientist or an expert, this looked a lot like mold to me. Long-story made short, I have not been sleeping my in apartment since Thursday night. I’ve been in a bit of a battle with my building’s management to get them to resolve this issue.

I’m a fan of quotes, and came across this one in my blog-reading and researching today

From success to failure is one step; from failure to success is a long road.

– Yiddish Proverb

Happy Tuesday everyone, and don’t forget to let me know what topics you would like to discuss.

Dynamic Design and Living in the Moment

Creativity is maximized when you’re living in the moment.

– Lululemon Manifesto

This past year has been a roller-coaster, to say the least. I have had some extreme highs and lows and everything in between. In the past 2 weeks, however, I have finally started to feel myself. I can’t remember a time when I wasn’t running on stress.

For some reason, I’m still having trouble falling asleep, but instead of using this time to agonize over what I need to do or should have done I’ve been relaxing. Living in the moment is a very new thing for me. It has allowed me to explore my true passions (ie. this blog and my decorating aspirations) and to really appreciate all the people and things around me.

I will be starting my new position on September 27th and my last day at my current job is tomorrow, the 10th. With the two weeks in between, I hope to really ground myself for the first time (at least in my memory).

What do you do to ground yourself? How do you continue to live in the moment?

Design is coming to grips with one’s real lifestyle, one’s real place in the world. Rooms should not be put together for show but to nourish one’s well-being.

Everyone needs some inspiration

As I’ve mentioned before, patience is a virtue I seem to lack.

If you are anything like me, you have probably done most of your organization shopping online. The convenience is great, but waiting for delivery can drive me nuts. Here’s a quote I ran across that definitely made me take a step back.

There is more to life than increasing its speed.

-Mohandas K. Ghandi

Everyone needs some inspiration.

The ability to simplify means to eliminate the unnecessary so that the necessary may speak

– Hans Hoffman

Everyone needs some inspiration

As I not so patiently wait for my newest acquisition to arrive, I have been mulling over what to conquer and share with you all next. I’ve found my direction, but while I gather my thoughts here is a great quote I found:

No matter what obstacles fill a room there’s a way to paint, glue or slip-cover over them

– Edward Walker

I have clearly taken this philosophy to heart.
